Barricado is completed.

1681

[1672] It is located along the route of today’s Atlantic Avenue. The 20-foot thick, 2,200-foot-long breakwater is built of stones and timbers. It is constructed as a defense against possible attack by the Dutch “fire ships,” obsolete ships set ablaze and then set drifting toward an enemy’s port. The barrier proves to be unnecessary and soon falls into disrepair.
